Rail systems

Rail systems

Concrete
With this system, the crane tracks and rail tracks are mounted on a concrete base.

Steel
In this system, the rail constructions are mounted on a steel girder.

Ballast
This system is used on a ballast bed with sleepers of (sulphur) concrete, wood or plastic. The sleepers serve as a stable, strong base for the crane or rail track to be mounted on them.

Special systems
Because of many years of experience, Bemo Rail can also design and deliver custom-made systems.

Crane track on concrete

Some crane tracks are applied directly onto concrete. Such a crane track consists of a large steel plate with the rails on it and a clamp attachment. The system can be adjusted to the correct height and length, after which it is ready for use by means of concrete drilling, anchoring and grouting. Such systems are used in new construction projects, renovations or extensions.

Crane track on concrete - continuously supported

A continuously supported crane track is characterised by rails mounted on a continuous steel sole plate with a continuous under cast, which may or may not be mounted in a concrete channel. This system is very suitable for high dynamic wheel loads.

If the wheel load is half of the maximum allowed wheel load on the rails, there is a possibility to omit the steel sole plate. The rail is then anchored to concrete with anchor bolts through the rail foot. The special features are the drilled holes in the rail foot and the continuous underlay. This system is only suitable for crane rails with a wide base (type A).

Crane track on concrete - discontinuously supported

A discontinuously supported crane track is characterised by rails – whether or not mounted in a concrete trough – on steel supporting plates or rail chairs, with a centre-to-centre distance of approx. 500 – 1000 mm.

Each support plate is individually undergirded. Rail supports can be directly integrated with the reinforcement in the concrete. This system is suitable when a continuous support is not necessary or not possible.

Crane track on a steel girder

Characteristic for a crane track on a steel girder is the rail often being fastened onto profile steel, with adjustable clips and either or not with elastic pad. With such constructions mostly weldable clips are used. These clips can mostly be pre-constructed.

Crane track on ballast bed

The use of a ballast bed provides stability, dampens vibrations and funnels storm water. When the construction is completely filled, the sleepers can be aligned in height. The rail is leveled in the correct position with a hydraulic jack. With Bemo Rail’s specially designed tamping machine the ballast is compressed under each sleeper.

The advantages of this system are:

  • Regular settling of the subsoil can easily be prevented.
  • By means of plugging and regular maintenance, the ballast system can easily be brought back to the required tolerances.
  • Relatively low investment costs compared to installing foundations of regular structures on concrete.

Crane track on concrete sleepers

Bemo Rail has its own concrete sleeper, especially for crane rail constructions with high wheel loads. The rail is mounted on a sleeper with a strong spring clamp and an elastic sole plate. The sleeper can be installed very precisely in a gravel bed, on sand-cement stabilisation or in repak. If necessary, the entire rail construction can be applied in combination with surfacing (asphalt, concrete sheeting or paving). It is important that the subsoil is well compacted.

Crane track on wooden sleepers

In addition to concrete sleepers, Bemo Rail uses hardwood sleepers with a supporting plate and rail fastening material. Furthermore, it is applied in the same way as the concrete sleeper.

Crane track on plastic sleepers

Plastic crane track sleepers are made of recycled plastic, a strong product with a long life span of about 50 years. For many years, plastic has been used worldwide for bridges, and it is also used for switches, railway tracks, subways, GVB companies and in industrial applications. The advantage is the high production capacity, the product is strong, durable, lightweight, easy and quick to assemble and fully recyclable.

Special rail systems

Because of many years of experience in rail systems, Bemo Rail is able to design and supply special customer-oriented rail systems.

  • Earthquake resistant constructions
In which the rails do not break during transition constructions and therefore, remain intact.
  • Crossing fields
For heavy industry (for example shipyards and windmill production).
  • Rail constructions
Research simulation systems with high tolerance accuracy +/- 0.1mm
  • Rail support plates
  • Transition piece for ship lifts
